Falmouth Duo Wins Top Titles at Michigan Rodeo Pageants

FALMOUTH — Missaukee County has reason to celebrate as two local girls, Katy Wilt and McKenna Jenema, secured the prestigious titles of Michigan Rodeo Queen and Princess at the recent Michigan High School Rodeo Association pageants.

Katy Wilt, a senior at McBain High School, earned the queen title by demonstrating horsemanship, delivering speeches, and completing a personal interview among other events. An avid rodeo competitor for most of her life, Wilt expressed her excitement for the opportunity to represent Michigan at the national high school rodeo queen competition in Wyoming this July, where she will compete against other state winners. "I want to increase awareness about rodeo in Michigan and encourage more girls to participate," Wilt shared, highlighting her passion for the sport and animal welfare.

McKenna Jenema, a rising seventh grader at McBain Middle School, claimed the princess title for the second consecutive year. Her victory is particularly impressive, considering her initial underdog status during her first competition. Jenema appreciates the supportive atmosphere within the rodeo community, stating, "No one is rivals; everyone is friends." This year, she is also set to compete nationally in barrel racing and pole bending in Iowa.

Both girls embody the spirit of the rodeo, demonstrating dedication and a strong sense of teamwork. They will represent their hometowns at upcoming competitions, bringing pride to Falmouth and Missaukee County. As Wilt prepares for a significant national challenge, and Jenema aims to continue her winning streak, their stories inspire and celebrate the vibrant rodeo culture in Michigan.
