Press Release: Teen Charged in Mount Clemens Arson Case Set for Trial
Mount Clemens, MI — A 17-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with a serious home invasion and arson incident that occurred in Mount Clemens. The teenager, who waived his right to a preliminary exam, is facing multiple charges, including first-degree home invasion, second-degree arson, the unlawful use of explosives, and possession with intent to cause damage.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the juvenile allegedly broke into the home on April 10 and detonated an explosive device, resulting in significant fire damage while seven individuals, including an infant, were present. Fortunately, all residents managed to escape unharmed.
Prosecutor Pete Lucido emphasized the severity of the alleged crime, stating, "I did not reach the decision to charge Mr. Brady as an adult lightly. The gravity of this crime plus the need to seek justice for the victims and protect the public required this solemn action." Lucido, who previously advocated for reform to avoid automatically charging 17-year-olds as adults, highlighted that exceptional circumstances warranted this decision in this case.
The court has set a bond at $500,000 cash/surety, with specific conditions; if released, the teen must wear a GPS tether, abstain from drugs and alcohol, avoid firearms, and refrain from contacting the victims.
The next court hearing for the teen is scheduled for May 12, as the legal proceedings unfold regarding this alarming case.
